What are the main women's football championships in Brazil?
Brazil has some important women's football championships. In general, they follow the same logic as the men's competitions.
Therefore, they include the Brazilian Championship, the State Championships and the Brazilian Cup. Below, learn more about each of them!
This is the main national women's football competition. It has only two divisions.
Unlike men's football, these are not series A and B, as both are A, and are classified by numbers.
Series A-1 has 16 teams. Series A-2 brings together 16 teams in the competition. The championship is organized by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and defines the national champion.
Just like in men's football, whoever is bottom of the A-1 series will, in the next cycle, be part of group A-2.
Those who are best ranked in series A-2 are promoted and move on to division A-1 the following year.
This is the second most important women's football competition in Brazil. It brings together 32 teams from all over Brazil.
Whoever wins this championship guarantees a place in the Women's Copa Libertadores da América.
Finally, there are also State Championships. They help to strengthen regional identification, as well as stir passions.
Each state organizes its own women's championship, including the calendar and format.

Brazilian women's soccer team: interesting facts
It is impossible to talk about women's football in Brazil without mentioning the Brazilian women's national team. After all, it is the gathering of the greatest Brazilian stars to represent the country in the world championship.
The Brazilian women's team has already achieved many achievements and continues to be a great promise in world football. Although its results in the last World Cup, in 2023, left something to be desired, the team shines on the field and promises to grow even more.
The first participation of a Brazilian women's team in the World Cup took place in 1991. In fact, this was the year the women's competition debuted. Since then, the Brazilian team has participated in every edition of the championship.
The best results were achieved in 2007, when Brazil came second in the competition, a historic achievement for the team. This achievement follows that of 1999, when the Brazilian team came third.
Brazilian women's football offers talent, wonderful plays and lots of excitement. However, it still faces obstacles that prevent it from being properly recognized.
Unfortunately, women's football still receives much less investment than the men's category. This is not limited to the budgets of the teams and the salaries of the players, but also to the support of brands and the promotion of the sport.
Most women's teams still do not have an adequate professional structure, with the exception of the big ones. Therefore, they face a lack of training fields, equipment and qualified professionals.
Women's football still has little visibility in the media, which makes it difficult to attract new investments and fans. However, the broadcasting of games on national free-to-air television is changing this scenario.
Sexism is still a big problem in women's football, with players often being victims of prejudice and discrimination, despite their talent and prowess on the field.
