Mountain Restoration Specialist
Produce impactful reports on restoration in GVL mountains. Requires 5+ years’ experience and advanced degree. Work independently with policy influence and regional scope.
The Mountain Restoration Specialist – Level B is a consultancy role with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). This opportunity is ideal for professionals who are passionate about contributing to large-scale ecosystem restoration projects. This position offers a chance to make a difference by producing comprehensive, evidence-driven reports to enhance restoration efforts in the GVL mountain region.
As this is a consultancy contract, applicants can expect a home-based, flexible work setting over a five-month period. The contract values expertise and experience over academic credentials, as even those with a bachelor’s degree and extra experience may qualify. Fluency in English and French is a must, and exposure to East or Central Africa’s restoration context is highly valued.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
The core duty involves producing an in-depth, knowledge-based report on restoration and nature-based solutions in the GVL mountains. This includes reviewing literature and projects, analysing best practices, and identifying sustainable methods.
You will gather barriers and lessons learned from past projects, develop prioritisation criteria, and produce a thorough catalogue of restoration options. Stakeholder engagement is key for validating and recommending solutions for scaling up. All deliverables are submitted for team and supervisor review.
This role needs a proactive individual able to independently manage complex data, relate findings to global standards, and communicate clearly with UNEP and stakeholders. Expect regular progress reviews and close collaboration with project managers.
Responsibilities span research, data analysis, report writing, and policy suggestion development. A strong focus on ecosystem restoration benefits and scalability is essential throughout your work.
Main Pros
This position offers flexibility and independence, as it is home-based and outcome focused. Working with UNEP provides prestige and valuable experience in global conservation efforts.
The scope and impact of the work are significant—findings inform policy, attract investment, and may shape international restoration agendas. You will collaborate with high-calibre professionals and have the chance to drive tangible environmental improvements.
Cons to Consider
The job requires advanced technical expertise and at least five years of demanding professional experience. Mastery in both English and French is required, which may limit eligible candidates.
Additionally, consultancy contracts offer no long-term stability or staff benefits. You must be comfortable with project-based roles and strict deliverable deadlines.
評決
The Mountain Restoration Specialist – Level B consultancy is ideal for passionate and experienced restoration ecologists. If you seek meaningful conservation work, can work autonomously under tight timelines, and thrive in a results-oriented setting, this is a great opportunity.
