Sport fishing is a sport widely practiced throughout the world, and although it is not yet very developed in Brazil, it is still somewhat common.
Well, this sport stands out because it is a type of fishing where people compete. This was probably already a little obvious, but how do they compete? For example, in this sport you don't kill the fish, you just catch them and then return them to the water.
In this fishing game, you can sometimes compete to see who catches the biggest fish, the heaviest fish, or even the most fish! The important thing is that you and your competitors return the fish to the sea.
This amazing, under-the-radar sport has a lot of things you still need to know. If you’re curious to learn more about this sport, keep reading.
The sport fishing scenario in Brazil
In Brazil, sport fishing is not a very popular sport. This makes it less sought after and even unknown to many, but in fact, it still attracts many people who enjoy the sport to various places in Brazil.
Brazil is a coastal country, which means there is no shortage of suitable places for fishing.
Furthermore, Brazil has several unique ecosystems, which makes it a very attractive place for hundreds of fishermen.
Every year, this sport grows and becomes even more popular. In this type of sport fishing, you not only practice fishing, but also help to preserve Brazil's ecosystems, since in this type of sport the fish are not killed.
Furthermore, it is worth highlighting that this activity boosts the market sector for products used in competitions, supplies and the purchase of motorboats.
And, of course, we haven’t mentioned yet how sport fishing contributes to the increase in tourism in Brazil.
Essential equipment: what do you need to start sport fishing?
To start sport fishing, you must start by purchasing the list of equipment necessary for the activity. There are two types that you can follow: waiting fishing or active fishing.
In wait-and-see fishing, the bait is more natural, and you wait for the fish to bite. In active sport fishing, on the other hand, you use special bait so that the fish can be released alive after being caught.
Additionally, you need to have a well-equipped boat. Check the engine, fuel, accessories, and safety materials.
Don't forget to bring protective clothing against the cold, water and rain, quality rods, appropriate fishing bait and other equipment.
For example, the ideal rod is made of graphite and carbon, and the hook should be chosen according to the type of fish you intend to catch. The choice of bait is important.
Study what the local fish eat and buy those baits. Also take a reel to store the line and sinkers to stabilize the reel.
With a cooler box, a compass and floats, you'll be ready for sport fishing.
Fishing Trip Planning: Choosing Destinations
When it comes to sport fishing, you can choose from a variety of places that will be very beneficial for your practice. Let's talk about some of them.
Paraná River
For example, the Paraná River is a great option, as it is home to species such as blue and yellow peacock bass, croakers and piauçus. You can also stay at a nearby guesthouse.
Paraguay River
Another great spot is the Paraguay River. If you want a sport fishing experience with complete infrastructure, this is the right place.
Here you will find species such as dourado, jaú, surubim and pacu. In the Paraguay River, there are several areas of focus for fishing.
Corumbá, Porto Murtinho, Cáceres and Poconé
For example, you can fish in Corumbá, Porto Murtinho, Cáceres and Poconé. All these places are fishing centers on this river.
If you are interested in fishing for a specific species, check which fish are found in each region.
Amazon River
The Amazon River is known for being the meeting place of more than 7 thousand tributaries, which means you will find a wide variety of species here.
Fish such as barbado, tucunaré, jaú, curimatã and piranha can be found in the region. Although it is a bit of a challenge to get there, the experience is worth it.
And of course, on the Amazon River, you will find two main places for sport fishing: Alta Floresta and Querência, both excellent for finding different types of fish.
Additionally, it is possible to reach these places by bus.
The Differences Between Freshwater and Saltwater Fishing
Fishing actually presents some differences depending on the type of water in which it is practiced.
For example, saltwater fish tend to have lighter flesh, due to the natural salt in the water, and generally have less fat.
On the other hand, freshwater fish have a stronger, earthier flavor and are considered by many to be some of the best freshwater fish.
However, as they do not have natural salt, the meat is heavier and fattier. These are the main differences.
However, in sport fishing, which is not about hunting fish for consumption, you don't need to worry so much about these details.
The focus is more on the fun of catching and releasing the fish back into the water.
